In the days following Gemayel’s assassination, more than 300 LF militiamen entered the Palestinian Sabra and Chatila camps, and massacred civilians between September 16 and 18, 1982. The camp was encircled by Israeli troops and was shelling the camp Scores of witness and survivor accounts relate numerous forms of violence committed against the Palestinian and Lebanese residents of the camps. These included smashing children’s heads against walls; the rape of a seven-year-old girl; gang-rape of many women,etc... Survivors reported that family members including women and children were crammed into trucks by militiamen and taken to unknown destinations. These people were never seen again.
