The Karantina Massacre took place early in the Lebanese Civil War on January 18, 1976.  The region of Karantina was a predominantly Palestinian Muslim slum district in mostly Christian east Beirut controlled by forces of the Palestine Liberation Organisation, inhabited by Kurds, Syrians, Palestinians as well as poor Lebanese families. Karantina was overrun by Christians militias of the right-wing, formed mainly of Kataeb armed men. The massacre resulted in the deaths and disappearance of approximately 1500 people. An estimation of 20.000 inhabitants fled before the slum was burned and bulldozed. The site was then used as the headquarters for the Kataeb. Today the site hosts the famous night club B018, while in the past it became witness to a massacre.
