Fighting between Palestinian and Muslim militias on the one hand and Christian militias on the other resumed in North Lebanon. Tripoli, Zgharta, and Zahleh saw hundreds of shells, mortars, and rockets dropped on densely populated areas. People were being kidnapped on both sides, and summary executions took place. For instance, in Zahleh alone, at least 500 mortar shells were fired from villages and towns surrounding the city. The Lebanese Army responded by firing in the direction of these places. It was estimated that 30 civilians were killed that day alone, and at least 40 had been wounded.
