On 6 September 1975, in response to the killing of four Christians, Kataeb members set up checkpoints in the port district in East Beirut, which was in the vicinity of the group’s headquarters. They proceeded to kill and abduct unarmed Lebanese Muslims and Palestinians from the streets, from their home and from the port where they were working. One of the perpetrators, described how they kidnapped and then killed Palestinians and threw the bodies in a garbage dump in the Tahwita area of Beirut. It is reported that 300 people were kidnapped that day. Their fate remain unknown. This event came to be known as “Black Saturday”.
